Judges’ Biographies
Mr. Dean Browning, Allentown, Pennsylvania
Dean and his wife have owned German Shorthaired pointers for 12 years. Currently, they have four adults and three puppies that are part of the family. Their dogs compete in a variety of AKC events as well as serving as personal hunting companions. Their adult dogs have three Championships, three Senior Hunter titles, one Field Championship, one Amateur Field Championship, and one Master Hunter title to their credit.
Dean currently serves as Treasurer of both the Schuylkill Valley German Shorthaired Pointer Club and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America. When his is not juggling the books or running dogs he judges for both field trials and hunting tests. Most recently, he judged for the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America’s National Championship held in Summerduck, Virginia.
Mr. Malcom Decker, Frederick, Pennsylvania
Malcom has been involved with pointing breed dogs since 1959. He has enjoyed owning, breeding, and training several different pointing breeds; including Weimaraners, English Pointers, Setters, and Wirehair Pointers. He has at least three dual champions and is working with young dogs now who have the potential to be dual champions. He is a past President of the Delaware Valley Weimaraner Club and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Wirehair Club.
Mr. David Pomfret, Orange, Virginia
Dave’s bird dog experience includes bench champions, obedience titles and numerous field trial champions. He has put field trial championships on Vizslas, Pointers, and German Shorthaired Pointers. Dave has been training and trialing bird dogs professionally for fifteen years. He has hosted the Delmar and Rick Smith Bird Dog Seminar for twelve years at the Oakland Shooting Preserve which he owns in Orange, Virginia.
Dave’s judging experience includes weekend field trials for all breeds of pointing dogs, as well as the first two Mid-Atlantic Weimaraner Classics, the National Vizsla Association Eastern Championship and most recently the German Wirehaired Pointer National Championship.
He adds that he “is looking forward to watching great Weimaraners in the field and renewing old acquaintances at this year’s WCA Eastern Classic.”
Mr.
Andrew Valentino, Downington, Pennsylvania
Andrew has owned, trained and
handled German Shorthair Pointers since 1970.
He finished his first Shorthair as a champion, but his main interest is
in the field—either hunting test or field trial. He has judged all registered AKC pointing breeds, including both
Weimaraner and Gordon Setter Classics.
In his own words: “There is no
greater thrill while judging than watching a good dog “do his thing.”
Mr. Mike Wilshire,
Belwood, Ontario, Canada
Mike and his wife, Donna, purchased their first Brittany in 1978 as a pet and a hunting companion. Within three years, he was both a Dual and Amateur Field Champion. They started their breeding program in 1981, and averaged one litter per year. They have produced several show and field titled dogs, including a Number 6 and Number 17 All-Age Dog of the Year in the U.S. One of their Brittanys won the prestigious U.S. Victoire National Derby Classic at 14 months of age.
Mike has judged several all breed field trials in Canada, as well as Brittany trials in New York, Ohio, and Michigan. He is currently the CKC Pointing Breed Representative for Western Ontario, and he was one of the panelists in the 1997 Field Test Seminar. Since beginning field training part time three years ago, Mike has accumulated over 30 Field test titles and several trial placements on four different pointing breeds.
